The best way to recover is of course to AVOID the hull breach.
First a few words on how to avoid a hull breach. Actually there is only one thing to do: stay focused! This translates in the following practical tips:
- Avoid low law levels when you’re not ready to go there. Pirates get more aggressive and have stronger weapons in the lower law levels.
Get good shields before moving down the ladder of law. - Retreat asap. So you ignored tip 1 and got into trouble in lower law levels, then retreat as soon as possible.
- When on the move, keep an eye on your browser ALL the time. A few seconds of distraction can make a big difference, when being pulled in combat by pirates.
- Log out of the game when going AFK!
But you know one day you might meet those nasty pirates that cut through your shields faster than expected and a few moments later when looking out of the window of your escape pod, you see your carefully gathered equipment flying away in outer space.
That’s the moment that you will wish you had read this article more carefully…
So here are some tips and tricks on what could help to prepare for hull breach recovery. Most of the tips come from personal experience!
- Take an insurance.
Actually this is not my personal favorite, but it is a possibility nevertheless. Info about insurance can be found elsewhere. Remember that insurance only covers the ship. The other equipment that you carry around can’t be insured. So even with an insurance, still read the next bullets. - Your other toons
Depending on which toon exactly suffered the hull breach, your other toons can assist in recovering. Hauler brings in the money for buying new equipment, Miner brings in the required resources to craft new equipment,…. - Spare equipment
Rather than immediately recycling everything, keep your old equipment (bound to character) that you currently are no longer using. Spare equipment could also be new equipment, freshly crafted but not yet used. Keep the spare equipment in the PSF and not in the ship store! Or why not, transfer the new equipment to a player owned emporium.
One thing that helped me a lot recovering after hull breach of my miner, was my player owned emporium filled with mining equipment. I could simply grab some equipment out of the shop. - Spare resources
Spare resources may help for crafting new equipment. It limits the mining time before getting started again. This will help especially when your miner suffered the hull breach. - Spare credits
Remember that you may need credits for schematics and refining or simply for buying new equipment. Having some spare credits at hand will help especially when your hauler suffered the hull breach. - Get help from friends.
Last but not least! Make friends on the chat. In the few moments of despair after the hull breach, friends offer comfort for sure and can possibly also help getting you back on your feet.
